Day 1
It’s the first world championships organised after the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games! The Junior World Championships, Olbia 2021, delivered impressive judo throughout day one of the event.

-48kg: Assunta Scutto (ITA)
Assunta Scutto (ITA) brought cheer to the home crowd by securing the first gold medal of the day. Her final match opponent was Irena Khubulova (RUS), whom she defeated in under a minute, pinning her Russian opponent for ippon at the edge of the mat area.

-60kg: Giorgi Sardalashvili (GEO)
it was Azerbaijan vs Georgia in the -60kg final and it was the Georgian who won out. Giorgi Sardalashvili (GEO) defeated Turan Bayramov (AZE) by countering him for waza-ari. After his win, Sardalashvili said, “The secret of Georgian judo is hard work. We train and we listen to our coaches. I train with (Olympic Champion) Lasha Bekauri; we have the same coach. Today I wanted to be as good as him."

Giulia Carna (ITA) gave the home crowd more reason to cheer as she successfully fought her way to the final. However, it was Chloe Devictor (FRA) who won by scoring a waza-ari from a counter, to win France’s first gold medal of the championships.

Abrek Naguchev (RUS) faced Lennart Slamberger (GER) in a -66kg final that ended with an ippon by the Russian from a big counter attack. Said Abrek Naguchev: "The reason I have won is because I lost my two previous big competitions and I never felt such a huge feeling of revenge. I felt untouchable today so this is the key, to never give up."
